The Park Aquatic
SPRING 2024 / ARC510 / Prof. Lily C. Wong
Given Miami’s aquatic concerns, between storm surge flooding and sea level rise, it is certain we must be ready to get our hands wet. Many current solutions to these issues seem to only provide immediate relief or long-term city overhauls, the ‘Park Aquatic’ embraces our wetland future, materializing a park for our current enjoyment and future shelters. The project utilizes an elevated walkway anchored by three pavilions that act as community relief not only for people but our animal counterparts. Watchtowers double as food gardens and bird houses, amphitheaters become burrowing shelters, and long halls shelter both people and bugs. Adorned with pink-powder-coat panels and frilly scalloped edges, the park embraces a Miami aesthetic not only to preserve visual identities but embrace them as a tactic for a less-than-ideal future.
